Dear Elisabeth,
I am a senior school pupil as well as a supporter of the environment. Once I participated in an activity along with the young volunteers' association of our school. The theme of the activity was
protection of the city' s green lungs. I'm greatly impressed by the environmental course I am taking this semester. On the one hand, I feel concerned about the current environmental situation in Ukraine. On the other hand, 1 respect Ukrainian environmentalists working on this front.
I have always thought of contributing to environmental protection.
I have liked to be embraced by nature since I was à small child. At that time, my grandfather' s garden was à paradise for me, in which I often stayed for a whole day, smelling the fragrance of flowers and earth, or playing with earthworms and snails. My hometown is a hot city in the summer, and we often enjoy the cool breeze on the bank of the river. My childhood gave me the sense of belonging to nature.
Му city seems to be à wonderful world with skyscrapers, neatly arranged streets, and convenient traffic. But when my curiosity faded away gradually, I saw another side of the prosperous city: noisy streets„garbage everywhere, dull skies and bustling people.
My understanding of environmental protection was gradually deepened in the process of participating in the group'в activities. I think that people who devote themselves to environmental protection expect neither fame nor money. Their strength comes from nature. Only when you get close to nature and love it with all your heart, can you feel the pain when beautiful nature is gradually destroyed by human activity, and then will you show full willingness to commit yourself to environmental protection without rewards.
Now l like outdoor activities and getting сlоsе to nature mole than before. I want to protect nature. become a friend of it and do mу best to build harmony between human beings a nd nature.
Тhere is much to do to improve the current environment in Ukraine. First of all, it is esseniial to promotе the public's awareness on environnment. Take mу hometown as an ехаmplе. In mу view, although i he city enjoys a favourable location and rich natural resources

environmental awareness. Still worse,
our government does poor jobs in the
control, oducation and publicity of the
environment. The city lacks sufficient
infrastructure such as garbage cans on
the streets, not to mention classified
garbage саns.
The path to environmental protection is
full of hardships. I wish to exert my ef-
fort, small as it is, to protect our home-
land and to revitalize оf nation and rivi-
lization.
There' s really a lot to say. When we talk
about nature, the environment and eco-
logical protection, we should emphasize
our love for nature, our concern for the
environment and our determination to
protect the natural environment, wild-
life, ecological environment as well as
cultural heritage. At the time emphasis
should be placed on resource conserving
and reuse of waste in our daily life...
